Are you still holding a torch for the long-in-development Riot MMORPG? Be encouraged, because the studio is too, and it’s not shy about saying so. During a panel at PAX West, Riot Games founder Marc Merrill laid out a bold manifesto as to why he and the studio are devoted to getting an MMO off the ground — even if it’s a hard, risky endeavor.
“The MMO we’re building, as an example — we know what players’ hopes and dreams are, and all that,” Merrill said in front of a crowd. “And it’s just on us as a team of people: can we succeed in the execution, you know? But what a worthy quest. We jokingly call it ‘The Grail’ internally because we’re like, ‘F–k it — many a brave knight are going to die, on the Grail quest. But f–k it, it’s The Grail, so let’s go.'”
Merrill went on to give hope to fans that this project will see the light of day, saying, “That’s the mindset that we really try to cultivate, and that is hard to do at scale. But I think we’re doing a reasonable job and I think the future’s incredibly bright.”
