French music duo Daft Punk were reportedly offered an “unlimited budget” to work on Grand Theft Auto 6, but decided to turn down Rockstar Games’ advances.

With Grand Theft Auto 6 set to release in a month, Rockstar Games has been upping their marketing efforts. That has seen them unveil a Collector’s Edition of the game, roll out merch, and, most recently, drop a launch trailer as well.

In that newest trailer, things are soundtracked by Justice, with their new track Flower in a Hurricane playing a pivotal role. The song has already become a hit with fans too, with further tracks from the music group set to be included in the game’s score.

However, according to a new claim, Rockstar initially wanted Daft Punk to make a comeback and help them with the music.

Rockstar wanted Daft Punk for GTA 6 soundtrack

As per hasitleaked, who has reported on Daft Punk news for a few years, the French duo were approached by the Rockstar Games team to work on GTA 6.

“Daft Punk’s management (yes, still exist) were pitched “a final comeback” of the duo for the GTAVI soundtrack with what was “essentially an unlimited budget”. Justice were Rockstar’s second choice,” they posted on X (formerly Twitter) on October 19.

The French duo disbanded back in 2021, but have released anniversary editions of their albums since then. On top of that, there was also a ‘Daft Punk Experience’ in Fortnite back in 2025 too.

There were multiple skins on offer, as well as other cosmetics, in-game activities, and an interactive event too.

While that was pretty big, a link-up with Grand Theft Auto – for what is slated to be the biggest game of all-time – would have been bigger.
