The Daily Grind: Would you like your MMO vanity pets to be more functional?

Anyone who knows me is familiar with my love for MMO pets. I’ll usually be tromping about the game world with a lil’ favored companion at my side, sharing whimsy and delight wherever I go. But I do admit to feeling a little disappointed that hanging out is all that these pets ever do.

Could pets do more? Should they? Is there demand for it? That’s the question for today’s Daily Grind! Would you like to see utility added to pets, and if so, what would it be? Would you like it if they transformed into little combat assistants, or handed out the occasional buff, or took your goods to town to sell in the style of many ARPGs? Or would added utility make them more of a requirement than optional, annoying those who do not like pets at all?
