A while back, Eliot wrote a piece about Warframe’s Equinox frame, and it jumped out at me.
“The problem is, well, having two frames at the same time is complicated,” he writes. “And Equinox doesn’t really fix this. For example, one of the guides that I’ve seen to maximize her damage is to start in one form, then activate two abilities, then switch, then store up damage while using her other abilities, then switch again, then unleash the damage and it’ll hurt really badly! Which is definitely cool, except that a lot of other frames can unleash a ton of damage without having to perform several steps in the middle and hoping that everyone cooperates with her to set up her dream engagement.”
Yes! This! I have found this over and over in so many MMOs. Guild Wars 2 is a serial offender in my opinion. On the one hand, I’m grateful that we have a billion specs of varying difficulty and challenge. That’s awesome for accessibility at both ends of the gamer spectrum. But on the other hand, many specs just feel more pointlessly complicated without any payoff for going to all that extra trouble, and sometimes when I play those toons and realize I am juggling 10 extra things for the same result as another spec, I do have to wonder why I am bothering.
