A couple of nights ago, before I was about to head to bed, I was talking with a friend about some games. He wasn’t familiar with one of the games I mentioned and actually thought it was another that was, as he described it, “in [my] wheelhouse”. It took a few minutes for him to look up the name and another day for me to get around to googling it. But I’m glad I did, because it’s definitely going on my list of things to watch for.
The game, titled Ordinary Oddness is developed and published by Cosmipup Studio (who arguably have the cutest logo in gaming). While watching the 22 minute reveal trailer “Interlude: What Ifs and Unfulfilled Promises”, my first impression was, “this is Paprika if it were a game”. Of course I’m talking about the anime, not the seasoning.
The game, which is free-to-play, is described on the Steam page as being massively multiplayer, although, based on the video, it looks like players will have teams of characters. Whether they’re obtained through gacha or just as part of the story is up for question.
Ordinary Oddness is set in the city of Elysian Skies, suspended above a sea of clouds. In this city, humans and creatures known as Mythoids live together following something known as the Albinox Judgement. Although, it seems things might be just the tiniest bit tense.
Players take on the role of a Consulting Investigator with certification from the Mythoids Investigation Agency. They’ll run their own investigation agency on Breezway Lane and take commissions. Although, it seems like it may not be as easy as that makes it sound.
